Position: Director of Development & Outreach
REPORTS TO:
President/Executive Director, Pennsylvania SFI Implementation Committee Inc. (PA SIC)
CONSULTS WITH:
PA SIC Organizational Development Subcommittee, Board of Directors, Advisory Board, and PA SIC staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide leadership and primary staff support for the development and retention of PA SIC contributing organizations (SFI-Certified Organizations, SIC Partners, and SIC Supporters). Support other revenue development activities and act as a liaison between the PA SIC and its existing and potential contributing organizations.
Contributing Organization Development (approximately 65% of time)
- Initiate, drive and support the design and implementation of the PA SIC’s development and retention programs and other revenue development activities. This includes, but is not limited to:
- working independently and with the PA SIC Organizational Development Subcommittee to maximize recruitment and retention of new and existing contributing organizations,
- participate in the development of, and achievement of, annual contributing organization recruitment goals,
- research and identify potential contributing organizations and industry sectors, engage and cultivate these prospects, and secure new sources of revenue to support PA SIC programs,
- working with the PA SIC Organizational Development Subcommittee on planning and implementation of periodic committee telephone, virtual, or in-person meetings,
- tracking progress on contributing organization recruitment and retention efforts,
- reporting progress and activities to the Subcommittee, Board of Directors, Advisory Board, and PA SIC staff.
- Initiate and follow-up on the development and retention efforts through company visits and telephone/email contacts, either in partnership with Subcommittee members or independently.
- Coordinate and create promotional materials and messaging, including print pieces (such as brochures, booklets, and flyers) and digital content (such as Mailchimp campaigns, videos, and social media), to support contributing organization development and retention efforts.
Outreach and Service (approximately 25% of time)
- Promote and support PA SIC events, programs, trainings, sponsorship opportunities, and fundraising efforts to contributing organizations and others in the industry.
- Represent PA SIC at various industry events, trainings, trade shows, meetings, and public events, as needed.
- Communicate to PA SIC President/Executive Director relevant feedback and issues from contributing organizations.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the SFI Program, SFI Inc. strategic direction, PA SIC programs and strategic priorities to serve as an informational resource for contributing organizations and articulate the value of their financial support.
Other Duties and Activities (less than 10% of time)
- Attend all relevant PA SIC Board and Subcommittee Meetings.
- Attend select PA SIC sponsored and hosted events.
- Undertake special projects and other activities, as needed and directed by PA SIC President/Executive Director, Board of Directors or Organizational Development Subcommittee.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of forest certification and sustainable forest management principles
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania forestry and the state’s forest products industry, including familiarity with key organizations and stakeholders across industry sectors
- Experience in sales, fundraising, membership development, business development, or contributor recruitment, with a strong customer service orientation
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Experience with grant writing and project management
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and the ability to travel statewide
- Ability work from a desk at a computer for prolonged periods of time. Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Ability to traverse uneven, forested, or otherwise rough terrain in a variety of weather conditions.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT AND COMPENSATION:
$50,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. Funding for this position is guaranteed for 18 months. Continued employment beyond that period will depend on the position becoming self-sustaining or on the availability of additional funding. Employment beyond 18 months is not guaranteed.

PRIMARY JOB LOCATION:
This position is remote/home-based within Pennsylvania.
TRAVEL:
This position is responsible for statewide recruitment and outreach and requires regular in-state travel, including visits to existing and prospective contributing organizations and attendance at meetings and events. Some overnight travel is required. Occasional out-of-state travel for regional or national meetings may also be required.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Development and Outreach (DDO) will lead and serve as the primary staffing for the PA SIC’s revenue retention and recruitment efforts. This will involve working with the PA SIC’s President/Executive Director, Organizational Development Subcommittee, Board of Directors and Advisory Board, as well as direct interaction with potential and existing contributing organizations. Additionally, the position will support the PA SIC in general outreach activities, educational programming, and other fundraising efforts.
The DDO reports directly to the President/Executive Director and is responsible for informing them about contributing organization issues, concerns, outreach strategies, and materials development. The DDO also works closely with the Organizational Development Subcommittee on implementation of contributing organization recruitment and retention strategies and goal setting.
The DDO is expected to exercise independent judgment on matters of contributing organization outreach in a manner consistent with the PA SIC’s objectives and policies. The DDO must also maintain a current understanding of SFI and PA SIC programming as well as forestry and forest products industry issues.
The DDO must be comfortable working independently and with little daily oversight. The DDO is expected to represent the PA SIC in a professional manner before the membership, partner organizations, general public and other entities. Some travel and overnight stays are required. Experience and understanding of Pennsylvania’s forest products industry and SFI certification is necessary, including knowledge of key players from various sectors of the industry.
The Pennsylvania SFI Implementation Committee Inc. is part of a network of 33 Implementation Committees independently operating across North America through the SFI Program to promote SFI certification, support SFI Certified Organizations, and promote wise forest stewardship.
