Pennsylvania Hardwoods Development Council 

Organized within the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the PA Hardwoods Development Council has been promoting the development, expansion and marketing of the hardwood industry in the Commonwealth since 1988. As the number one state for hardwoods production, the Council plays an important role in promoting Pennsylvania's forests and wood products.

Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc.

The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts works to enhance locally led efforts that support the wise use of the state’s natural resources. The PACD primarily serves as the collective voice for Pennsylvania’s 66 county conservation districts.

Pennsylvania DCNR Bureau of Forestry

The bureau is the state’s lead forest conservancy agency. Providing a wealth of knowledge relating to the conditions of Pennsylvania's resources, as well as assisting landowners with managing their private forest lands. The bureau is responsible for extinguishing forest wildfires on both public and private land, and manages Pennsylvania’s 2.2 million acre state forest system.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission manages the Commonwealth's wildlife resources for all Pennsylvanians. The Commission manages the Pennsylvania State Game Land system for hunting, trapping, and fishing, and provides a host of benefits to wildlife, state residents and visitors.

Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is an independent Commonwealth agency responsible for the regulation of all fishing and boating in Pennsylvania.

Housed in the College of Agricultural Sciences, the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management leads academic efforts spanning from basic ecology to sustainable and profitable management of natural resource systems, from soils to water to biological diversity.

Pennsylvania 4-H

4-H is a non-formal educational youth development program of the Cooperative Extension System. The program reaches 7 million youth in all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military installations worldwide. It is the largest youth-serving program in the world with members in 82 countries. The Pennsylvania SFI Implementation Committee is a proud sponsor of the Pennsylvania 4-H Forestry Program.

Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an award-winning, environmental education program for educators working with students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Through hands-on, interdisciplinary activities, PLT uses the forest as a “window on the world” to help young people learn how to think – not what to think – about complex environmental issues. Pennsylvania Project Learning Tree (PA PLT) offers training workshops for teachers and educators throughout the state. Project Learning Tree® (PLT) is a program of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. DCNR is the state sponsor of Project Learning Tree in Pennsylvania.

US Environmental Protection Agency

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is the federal agency charged with protecting human health and the environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress.

US Army Corps of Engineers

The Army Corps of Engineers supports and manages numerous environmental programs. Some of these programs include Ecosystem Restoration, Environmental Stewardship, EPA Superfund sites, and Abandoned Mine Lands. The ACE also joinly manages the Clean Water Act section 404 permitting program with the EPA. The Corps mission includes education as well as regulation and cleanup.

US Fish and Wildlife Service

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is the federal agency within the United States Department of the Interior dedicated to the management of fish, wildlife, and natural habitats. The Fish and Wildlife Service is responsible for administering the Endangered Species Act. The Pennsylvania Field Office has information specific to the Commonwealth.

Natural Resource Conservation Service

The Natural Resources Conservation Service is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that provides technical and financial assistance to farmers and other private landowners and managers on conserving their soil, water, and other natural resources.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration: Logging eTool

OSHA has developed an eTool to assist employers in developing and implementing work practices and programs which comply with OSHA requirements and reduce the risks of logging. This eTool reviews the requirements of the OSHA Logging Standard in relation to employer safety and health, and refers to various state standards and recommended safe work practices.
